PETITION TO THE HONOURABLE MICHAEL HARRIS, PREMIER OF ONTARIO

The Federal Government pressured the City of Ottawa to pass a so-called Bilingualism Policy that violates the Merit principle and the rights of all other people in Ontario by instituting a total preference for Francophones at every level of City Government.

Mayor Bob Chiarelli and a majority of City Council did in fact pass such a Policy and By-law to establish the most rigid form of preference for Francophones and to change Ottawa into a City that is Francophone at every level.

The Province of Ontario is not Bilingual and has sole authority over the Cities in Ontario.  The people of Ontario come from many languages and cultures, and expect to be treated fairly and equally.

Concerned that the City of Ottawa has taken away rights from the people of Ottawa without any Court decision.

CALL UPON the Government of Ontario to set aside the so-called Bilingualism Policy of the City of Ottawa and re-establish a merit system<

CALL UPON the Government of Ontario to refer to the Courts of Ontario the legality of this so-called Bilingualism Policy for a decision on the equality of all the peoples of Ontario.
